Haven't blogged in a while. Too busy looking into a zillion other sites and youtube videos. Why do I always think so many others have so much to say -- they do and so much of it is utterly fascinating -- yet I know I do also -- but my problem is do I have the umph to expand that creative energy?! I want to, yes, certainly...but it takes a lot of inner drive to write meaningfully. Or just to write at all. It's a discipline, truly. Especially in this day of sound biteage. I've fallen victim to brief 2-3 sentence comments myself -- this year, however, I am determined to STREEEETCH my attention span by reading books more and getting back to determined levels of concentration. Enough with all this sound-bite, flashing milisecond screens in your face. The pace needs to relax and slow down. "SAVOR" will become my 2012 mantra -- as much as I can possibly fashion it so.
My brain needs room and time to expand at its own pace & not at the breakneck pace someone else may think I need to learn at! After all, regular schooling is done over a span of 12 years, with additional yrs. for extended learning and even more for masters. Personally we should be learning each day. But gently absorbing, nonetheless. Too much cramming is never good for "retention" of info input.
Spring 2012 dawned quickly after one of the mildest winters for most of the nation, perhaps world in a while? I have to research if that is indeed a fact. Here in middle S.C. some of the days are already in hight temperature (upper 80's), but it hasn't been dragon hot and humid, yet. BLESSEDLY! Today it's overcast, threatening rain, with a slight breeze. That's keeping the temperature down. That is fine with me!

In a 2 x 8 foot garden box/bed my husband and I cobbled together out of some used lumber a few months back, I noticed this....
It's Autumn Sedum. Pretty sure it's in the succulent family. The baby offshoot that is tucked up under the mother plant behaves like my "hens and chicks succulent" when it comes to expanding itself. This is my first time with Autumn Sedum; I knew absolutely nothing about it when I planted them except for what little information was showing on the plant sticker that came with the plant. Pretty neat little plant. It does have a tight little pinkish flower to it at a certain point, as well.
I'm relatively new to the admiration for succulent plants -- probably my second or third year in my last 10 or so years since I've been dabbling in the garden. Before winter I ordered several little new succulent varieties in 2 and 4 inches pots in the hopes I would make some type decorative plant box. Alas, I put them out inside my truck during a cold snap and all but one survived. Very disappointing. The had names like "baby donkey toes" and other ear-catching monikers.
My original "hens and chicks plant" that reproduced like crazy for a while is looking puny. Think I underwatered it for too long and also need to remove some stone mulch off it. Most likely need to thin it out. I need lots more succulent plant knowledge. Perhaps now Samantha is living in Texas for a time I may learn some techniques if I go to visit her? What about you? Do you enjoy the succulent plant family? Do tell!
